A Girl Walks Into A Bar

On March 13, 2004 I met my husband.  At a bar.

Of course, I didn’t know it at the time.  All I knew was that I had met someone who made me smile.

Eight years (four married), three apartments, one house and one sweet amazing little girl later….and here we are.

But, back to that bar…

Social Bar & Grill in midtown Manhattan.  I haven’t been back there in years, but for awhile we’d go back and visit for a drink on special occasions.  It was even a stop along the way during my bar-hopping-bachelorette-party.

For our first-year-of-dating-anniversary, I decided to take a picture of Social and frame it as a gift for Mike.  I didn’t own a camera at the time so I took the picture with….are you ready?…a black and white disposable camera!  Can you believe that!?  The picture came out surprising well considering.  Or maybe it’s just so sentimental to me I’m not a good judge.

Regardless, for years it hung in Mike’s apartment…then our apartment…and now in hangs in our first house together.

And it still makes me smile whenever I look at it.

Have you ever made any sentimental gifts for a partner?

I’m tearing up! You and Mike are so sweet. Happy Anniversary!

  2. Super cute! I can’t do that because we met at my former place of work and well, it’s hard to explain but it doesn’t have the “cache” of a frame it factor. But I totally have a shadow box filled with a ticket from our first date ever, our first trip ever and our first vacation photo.

    Very nice and very sentimental!

My husband and I met at the bar too! We were both meeting mutual friends to watch some March Madness basketball. We are lucky enough to live just a mile or so away, so we visit & pass by often. Now I’ve got an anniversary gift idea for next year! :)
